The LARKIN CLAN Site

CLAN GATHERING  2009.

Maine Mór, offspring of Niall of the Nine Hostages and descendant of Conn of the Hundred Battles, King of the Gaels in the region of Oriel, summoned his warrior princes about him, and said:

"Numerous are our heroes, and great is our population, our tribes having multiplied and prospered; and we cannot all find room in any one province; for nobles cannot well bear to be confined.  Let us therefore find that province least populated, and make our way there".

And so a great hosting was called, and the clans were gathered for their journey to Connacht to establish a new kingdom there, which was to last for over 1,000 years.

There wasl another gathering of the Larkin group of families in July  2009!  This took place in the town of Portumna, County Galway, in the west of Ireland. The event covered visits to historic Meelick, to the royal site of Clonmacnois on the Shannon river, to the scene of the Battle of Aughrim, and to a selection of castles and other historic buildings with strong Larkin associations.  There was a strong cultural emphasis on our shared heritage and history, spanning not just centuries, but millennia. Local officials from heritage, historical, cultural and genealogical groups participated to bring familiarity to all participants, wherever they came from. Clan menbers from Canada, the U.S., Australia, Germany, France, Scotland Englans and Russia attended. The occasion provided a forum for Larkin descendants from all over the world to create or renew links with their distant cousins; in some cases, after the passage of many generations. Lasting friendships and rewarding contacts were established in an historic social setting.
